Why I like scobleizer

Robert Scoble is a great example of the difference between influence and power. This guy has helped transform one of the most powerful companies in the world by just being honest and open. He doesn’t have much more power than most of the employees in Redmond, but he has tons more influence because he treats people fairly, roots for underdogs, and tries to speak the truth.

How I met scobleizer

It was April 2004. Robert posted a “let’s have lunch in Vancouver” post that I saw after coming home late from a party. I fired off a few emails to alert people (Darren Barefoot, who I hadn’t met in person yet either, and Roland Tanglao, who ended up being at the hospital since his son was being born).

We ate at a Thai place in Yaletown, where I also met Tim Bray and Lauren Wood for the first time.

It changed my life, since I went home with head buzzing about the future of RSS, blogging, and the web, and wrote some of the best technology diligence advice I have ever written.

Thanks, Robert, Tim, Lauren, and Darren—you all helped with that, whether you knew it or not.

Why I like scobleizer

Robert has got to be 35 years old at least, but he still looks like a tow-headed 12 year old, and has the energy, enthusiasm and openness to match. All round nice guy :)
